Immera developed a high-performance biometric visualisation platform designed to prove the emotional impact of audio. By capturing real-time vital signals and emotional responses from listeners, the platform provides Spotify’s media buyers with scientific evidence of how users engage with music and advertisements, transforming subjective feelings into objective sales data.

Measuring the Unmeasurable: How Immera Helped Spotify "See" Emotion
When a listener hears a specific beat or a compelling ad voice-over, their body reacts before their mind even registers it. For Spotify, these "gut reactions" are the key to their advertising dominance. Immera was brought into this project to build the window through which these reactions could be viewed.
From Sensors to Insights
Working alongside a long-time Spotify partner specializing in biometric data, we faced the "Big Data" challenge of human biology. Biometric sensors produce thousands of data points per second—heart rate variability, electrodermal activity (sweat gland response), and more. Our task was to take this "noise" and turn it into a clear, beautiful story. We built a platform that synchronizes these biological signals with the audio timeline, creating a "live map" of the human heart on music.
A Game-Changer for Media Buyers
The real power of this platform is its use in the boardroom. Instead of telling a media buyer that "people like our ads," Spotify can now show them. They can point to a specific second in a 30-second spot and show the surge in emotional engagement. This transition from "subjective opinion" to "biological fact" has revolutionized how Spotify approaches its biggest advertising partnerships.
The Future of Affective Computing
This project represents the cutting edge of what we do at Immera. It’s not just about software; it’s about Affective Computing—building systems that recognize and interpret human affect. By creating a platform that is as fast as a heartbeat, we helped Spotify bridge the gap between the science of sound and the business of advertising.
